Welcome! Do you know me in the real world? Could you or someone you care about benefit from a couple bags of shelf stable food to help with hard times? Then please reach out to arrange a time to visit my Friends & Family Pantry.
How it works
1. You and I arrange a time for the visit. If I don’t know the guest, I’d love for you to join the visit but it is not required.
2. The guest arrives at my home (also the International
Headquarters of Tess Rocket Enterprises) and I give a brief tour of my pantry. I’m enormously proud of this pantry but will try to limit my gushing joy to a couple of minutes.
3. I’ll ask our guest a few questions about their goals and their food prep style. Something like “Tell me a little about what foods you normally prepare and your current goals.” From this conversation, I might point out a few items that could be of interest. “Oh, quick and easy meals? The canned soups are here but don’t overlook the dry soup mixes. They take only a bit more time but are much more satisfying. Most require a can of tomatoes which are on this shelf here.”
4. Then I will give our guest two grocery bags and ask them to fill them. If they’re shared anything with me, I might offer to print a favorite recipe or track down an ingredient from my fridge to bring a meal together.
5. Once the bags are full, I will thank our guest for giving me the opportunity to gift them this food. If it seems like there is time, I might offer everyone a beverage so we can all talk
about our goals, community, the gift economy and my genetic predisposition toward feeding people.
6. We will all glow with happiness for days to come and I’ll set to restocking and improving my Friends & Family Pantry.
Thank you for considering a visit to my pantry or just reading about it. It you’re thinking of building up your own pantry for either increasing your own resilience, helping your people through hard times or participating in the gift economy, here are some resources:
